Bloomington, 1937), das antike Freundschaftsideal habe kaum Eingang in die mittelalterliche englische Literatur gefunden: "The many indications of the existence of a classical friendship motif in the English literature of the Middle Ages suggests that Professor Mills's conclusions on the rarity of the motif may have been based on insufficient evidence. The friendship theme appears to be something of a commonplace in the Middle Ages, and, aside from the Christian attempts to adapt the motif to theology, exists in a state little different from its first appearence in Plato" (S. 140).
