- "This dissertation examines the relationship between the portrayal of the secondary school in selected German literature at the turn of the century and the political, sociological and educational reality at that time. [...] An analysis of each author's delineation of the sociological structure of the school and its relationship to his respective autobiography is presented after an outline of the German history at this particular period. The research reveals that the depiction of the school was veritably uniform as portrayed by these writers. [...] The uniformity of the depiction is in sharp contrast with the school's functional purpose as interpreted by the individual writer" (S. 3011 A).
