"It is the burden of the introductory statements to show the relevancy of the Macrobian dream classifications to the presentation of the dream experience in medieval literature, to discuss the dreambook tradition and its significance in interpreting dream imagery, and to provide extensive bibliographical information to anyone interested in investigating the poetic form of the dream from early antiquity through the Middle Ages.
