"Euripides' 'Alcestis'". American Journal of Philology, 22 (1931), S. 295-319.
Baldensperger/Friederich, S. 79.
Es geht um die Interpretation des Endes von Euripides' Drama "Alkestis", nicht um das Motiv "Alkestis": "According to my own interpretation, Admetus never receives back a living Alcestis, and Euripides has written a very foul, but very coherent, piece, suitable for taking the place of a conventional satyric play. I shall try to interpret 'Alcestis' in that sense through the following pages, by outlining and commenting on the plot at some length, adding a few notes on certain of the larger issues raised. With Euripides' motives for writing as he did - whether of the realist, rationalist, or religious sceptic - I am not concerned. I am concerned only with 'Alcestis' as a play to be seen and enjoyed on the stage; not with it as a variation of legend" (S. 296).
