"The reversal of Stalinist literary motifs: The image of the wounded bird in recent Russian literature". MLR: The Modern Language Review, 83 (1988), S. 106-120.
Ziolkowski stellt zusammenfassend fest: "Within the sphere of twentieth-century Russian culture, [bird imagery, avian metaphors and comparisons] offer particularly rich possibilities for creative and emotive criticism of society. The remarkable number of wounded birds who have appeared in recent Russian fictional works and memoirs suggests that this is a major motif in the arsenal of what has been called 'the literature of moral opposition' and doubtless one which has not yet been exhausted" (S. 119f.).
